The Northside (Taobh Ó Thuaidh in Irish) is the area in Dublin City bounded to the south by the River Liffey and to the east by Dublin Bay. The Northside is traditionally viewed as being more working-class in character than its counterpart across the river, the Southside, and there is something of a rivalry between the two. The O’Connell street area lies on the North side of Dublin, although right in the centre and boasts many fine restaurants and cafes. Flashy new restaurants and hotels have sprung up in this area amid the more traditional pubs and quaint old shops.
There are some unique examples of modern day cosmopolitan Dublin in the O’Connell street area. For example, Cactus Jacks is a Mexican restaurant with a twist. After extensive traveling to the interiors of Old Mexico, and experiencing the hospitality and delectable cuisine of the Mexican people, Cactus Jacks was born in Dublin, the world really is a small place. Another option is The Gallery restaurant, specialising in European cuisine and situated in the centre of the O’Connell street district. Bar Italia is yet another choice within the area for those with a taste for all things Italy.
There is also a number of Asian food options in this and most other areas of Dublin, some of the choices in the O’Connel street area being Charming Noodles, China House and the Alilang Korean restaurant, all situated in the nearby Parnell street. The O’Connell street area is full of options for those wishing to eat in the centre and on the Northside of Dublin.
